The Tahlequah community, along with family and friends across Oklahoma, is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Camden Rece Matthew Soldier, affectionately known as “Cam.” Born on January 26, 2009, Cam was a vibrant and spirited young man whose kindness, energy, and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Cam sadly passed away at just 17 years old on May 28, 2026, in Park Hill, Oklahoma, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unfulfilled dreams. His passing has deeply affected his family, friends, classmates, and community.
From an early age, Cam was known for his adventurous spirit and joyful personality. As the youngest of five children, he enjoyed exploring the outdoors, spending time near water, traveling, and being surrounded by loved ones. His childhood was filled with meaningful experiences and strong friendships, particularly during his time at Chouteau Elementary School, where he formed a special bond with his teacher, Mrs. Shelle Messer, who had a lasting influence on his life.
After moving to Tahlequah with his mother, April Dreadfulwater, and stepfather, Cody Sparks, Cam began attending Keys High School, where he quickly built new friendships and strong connections with teachers and peers. During this time, he formed a close bond with Nehemiah Begay, who became like a brother to him and shared many of life’s important moments.
Cam’s passion for music, travel, and adventure grew as he entered his teenage years. He cherished road trips with close friends, especially Abby Goad, creating memories filled with laughter and joy. His enthusiasm for life was evident in everything he did, and his presence brought energy and warmth to those around him.
Determined to build a future, Cam pursued his GED and enrolled at Oklahoma Technical College (OTC) to train as an HVAC technician. He approached this new chapter with dedication and pride, guided by mentors who encouraged his growth and ambition. His commitment to self-improvement reflected his desire to build a meaningful life ahead.
Camden was deeply loved by his family and friends. He was a devoted son, brother, nephew, and friend, known for his humor, kindness, and charismatic personality. He shared a special bond with his family, including his mother, siblings, and extended relatives, who will forever cherish his memory.
He is survived by his mother, April Dreadfulwater; stepfather, Cody Sparks; father, Matthew Soldier; siblings Lauran, Trent, Andrew, and Matthew II; his close friend Nehemiah Begay; and many other relatives and loved ones who mourn his passing.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Chouteau First Baptist Church, with Pastor Brian Soldier officiating. A wake will take place the evening before at Shipman’s Funeral Home in Pryor.
Camden’s memory will continue to live on through the lives he touched, the love he shared, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
